Community Programs: We believe locally-owned suppliers, like hardware, home and garden centers, and building materials, can become "local heroes" in their community's efforts to become resilient, self-reliant and less fossil-fuel dependent.

Our approach

Local retailers in the "shelter" supply chain can be, must be, part of the process in transitioning communities to a low-carbon, resilient, self-reliant, sustainable economy. As suppliers of the many goods and materials required for building and repairing structures, maintaining living environments, lighting, energy producing products and components, water conservation systems and components, gardening and urban agriculture goods, etc., they can be important allies by stocking the right kinds of goods. And because they are literally face to face with so many members of the community, they can fill an educational role, transmitting the knowledge and skills that empower people to reduce negative impacts and accelerate positive change.

With insight born of unique experience in the industry and in local sustainability efforts, we can offer guidance and support for sustainability groups and local government agencies seeking to engage with local suppliers and manufacturers to further their community-building goals. Depending on the nature of the project, we work on a pro bono or reduced fee basis.
